HEB were awarded the Transport Agency Waka Kotahi contract to build the new Ōmanawa Bridge on State Highway 29 Tauriko West.
This is the first phase of the Tauriko West Roads of National Significance project. A significant win for the Tauranga and Western Bay of Plenty community, this mahi will improve the safety, resilience, and freight efficiency of this key route.
Construction started in October 2025.
The new bridge will:
Be approximately 72m long and 14m wide, built 20m south of the current bridge
Sit around 4m higher, with a realigned road to reduce the steep hill near SH29/Ōmanawa Road, improving visibility and safety
Provide a safer, more reliable connection to the Port of Tauranga for both freight and passenger vehicles
Fit the long-term plan for Tauriko West and its future growth
